Currency Local currency is the Cayman Islands (CI) dollar but US currency is widely accepted. Retailers, hotels, etc, change cash at a rate of US$1 equals CI$0.80, whereas the banks generally buy US dollars at CI$0.82 and sell for CI$0.84. Banks readily exchange British and Canadian currency.

Dress: The dress code is casual but over-exposure is frowned upon and something smarter than shorts and T-shirts preffered in most restaurants at night.

Banking: Most full service banks, located in George Town, are opened from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Friday. Sub-branches are located in the malls along Seven Mile Beach and in the Industrial Park.

Driving: On production of a driving licence valid in your own country, the police or car hire firm will issue a local permit valid for six months, if you are over 17 years old, at a cost of CI$4.00 (US$5.00). Remember to drive on the LEFT of the road.
